Amazon has a very beneficial Amazon Prime program set up for college students. This program allows college students to get a free six-month Prime trial, and then a major discount for a yearly subscription of Prime when the trial ends.
But could students still in high school try signing up for this Prime program? Or do you have to be in college? To learn more, keep reading!
Unfortunately, you cannot get Amazon Prime Student if you are still in high school. To receive Prime Student, you need to be enrolled in at least one course at a university or college in the United States. You must also have a college email that ends in .edu.
There’s a lot you should know about this situation. We explain everything below — including how you might be able to receive a Prime Student subscription if you are still in high school!
Unfortunately, high school students do not qualify to receive Amazon Prime Student benefits. Amazon Prime Student benefits are only offered to students who are enrolled in at least one course at a United States university or college.
To apply, you need to enter your college email, which ends in .edu. Amazon will then send a verification email to this address. To receive full Amazon Prime Student benefits, you must verify your email.
However, while Amazon states that you must be enrolled in college to receive Amazon Prime Student benefits, you might be able to still receive these benefits if you are in high school. Past customers have signed up for Prime Student without too much trouble.
If you have a school email in .edu, you could try to sign up for an Amazon Prime Student membership. Amazon could accept you. You could also be accepted if you are a high school student who is taking college classes.
If you do not have a school email address, then you will not be able to sign up for Amazon Prime Student.
To sign up for an Amazon Prime Student membership, you need to be able to prove that you are actually a student! The easiest way to do this — and really the only way that Amazon checks your student status — is by using your school email.
When you attend college, you receive a school email that ends in .edu. With this email, you can sign up for Amazon Prime Student. Amazon will send you a verification email to your school email. To receive full benefits, you’ll have to verify this email.
Your Amazon account doesn’t have to actually be under your college email address. You’ll just need to verify it once through your college email, and that’s it!
If you don’t have a school email address, then there isn’t a simple and easy way for you to sign up for an Amazon Prime Student account. However, you can try to get in contact with Amazon Support, show them proof that you are a student, and then see if they can help you!
Amazon Prime Students was created for college students. As a result, only students who are enrolled in at least one course at a university or college in the United States can apply to receive Amazon Prime Student benefits.
If you become a Prime Student, you have a whole lot of benefits that you can use instantly after signing up! These benefits include:
- Prime Video
- Amazon Photos
- Amazon Music
- Prime Gaming
- Exclusive deals for students
- Fast & free delivery
- 30-minute early access to Lightning Deals
- Fast grocery delivery through Amazon Fresh (only in select, participating cities)
Amazon Prime is not free for high school students. As we mentioned above, only college students can benefit from a Prime Student account.
When college students sign up for a Prime Student membership, they receive a six-month free trial where they don’t have to pay anything. After this trial expires, students can then buy a Prime membership at a discounted price.
If students have an Amazon Prime Student membership, then Prime Video and TV will be free for them to stream movies, television shows, and other content. However, if students do not have a Prime Student membership, they will not receive this for free.
Amazon Prime Video is attached to Amazon Prime. So, once students apply for an Amazon Prime Student account, they will also receive Prime Video in this package deal.
Students first receive a six-month free trial. When this trial is up, students can buy a Prime Student membership for $7.49 a month or $69 a year.
Amazon states that you cannot use Prime Student after you graduate. Once you graduate — or once four years pass after your sign-up date — you will no longer be eligible to receive Prime Student benefits. At this point, you will have to sign up for a regular Prime membership.
Sometimes, it might take a while for Amazon to actually kick you off of Prime membership. Some past customers have stated that they continued to receive Prime Student benefits well after their graduation. This could happen often.
However, Amazon will eventually realize that you’re no longer in school. Once you are ineligible for Prime Student benefits, you will only be able to receive regular Prime benefits.
Amazon normally waits until four years have passed to continue to see if you are still a student. If you are not, then they will say that you are ineligible for continued Prime Student benefits. However, you could still receive Prime Student benefits.
For example, if you are now going to graduate school, you could try to extend your Prime Student membership with this new information. You might have to get in contact with Amazon Support if you face issues.
On average, Amazon won’t really know that you’ve graduated. They’ll just go by the four-year timeframe, as most people graduate from college in four years!
If you accidentally signed up for Prime Student and were actually accepted, you can do a variety of different things. First, you could get in contact with Amazon Support and say that you didn’t mean to sign up for Prime Student.
You could also head to your Subscriptions page and see if you can cancel your Prime Student membership there. Some people may choose to keep this accidental signup, mainly because you receive a lot of great discounts.
Amazon may not realize this mistake at first, but it will eventually. So, don’t be surprised if you eventually get an email from Amazon stating that they will soon start charging you for a full Amazon Prime subscription!
If you don’t qualify for Amazon prime student, you can also get amazon prime discounts with EBT or Medicaid.
If your Prime Student sign-up page is not working correctly, the best thing you can do is wait to see if these issues are fixed in the next few hours or days. If you want to sign up immediately and don’t have the time to wait, getting in contact with Amazon Support is a great next step.
Amazon Support will be able to help you out and sign you up for a Prime Student membership in no time! As Amazon is known to be very customer-friendly, you should have no issue doing this.
You cannot get Amazon Prime Student if you are a high school student. Prime Student memberships are only offered to those who are enrolled in at least one course at a United States university. You must also have a valid school email address that ends in .edu.
